Since the textbooks and course materials are
completely prepared by assistants, associates or students and
published in a fairly small number of copies in a digital print
house, it is possible to have such a low selling price for students.
Some of the textbooks are financially supported by other faculties
of the University of Osijek since they are in use at these
institutions as well.
In addition to textbooks, Department of Mathematics
also published two journals:
Mathematical Communications is
published by the Department of Mathematics in co-operation with the
Osijek Mathematical Society. This internationally recognised
scientific journal publishes original scientific papers, invited
survey articles and lectures held at the Mathematical Colloquium in
Osijek. The journal was initiated by Dr. Hrvoje Kraljević in 1996.
The total number of contributed papers has increased lately, as well
as the number of published papers written by scientists from the
whole world. Papers published in our journal are frequently cited in
other significant international journals. The Editorial Board
consisting of prominent mathematicians from Croatia and abroad who
are somehow related to Osijek especially contribute to that fact.
Reviews are international, and authors and reviewers are contacted
mostly through the Internet. A rather large number of manuscripts
(about 50%) is rejected for publication due to negative reviews.
Mathematical Communications is cited in Current Mathematical
Publications, Mathematical Review, MathSci, Zentralblatt für
Mathematik / Mathematics Abstracts, MATH on STN International,
CompactMath, INSPEC, Urlich's, Current Index to Statistics.
Mathematical Communications is sent to more than 100 addresses all
over the world where it is exchanged with similar journals published
by universities, national associations or academies of science.
Since 1998 Mathematical Communications has been financially
supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic
of Croatia. More details referring to the journal Mathematical
Communications can be seen at
these pages.
Osječki matematički list
(former Osječka matematička škola) is a journal initiated in 2000 by
the Department of Mathematics, J.J.Strossmayer University of Osijek
and the Osijek Mathematical Society. It is intended for pupils and
teachers in primary and secondary as well as students of
mathematics. It is published twice a year. The journal publishes
predominantly papers from the fields of mathematics and computer
science, but also topics from other fields that are somehow related
to the main profile of the journal. In addition to classical papers
and regular columns such as Zadaci i rješenja, Glavolomke and
Povijesna rubrika, there are other contributions such as entrance
examination exercises with solutions, information from the
Department of Mathematics, University of Osijek, Osijek Mathematical
Society, translations of texts from Mitteilungen der Deutschen
Mathematiker-Vereinigung, etc. The aim of the journal Osječka
matematička škola is to raise the level of communication in the
field of mathematics and computer science in primary and secondary
schools, predominantly in the Slavonia and Baranya County, but our
sights have not come down. We also expect that in this way pupils
and teachers will get to know each other better, which will in turn
significantly raise the level of knowledge of mathematics, computer
science and related fields. By publishing the journal Osječka
matematička škola Department of Mathematics got a chance for its own
promotion and direct influence on raising the quality of teaching
mathematics and computer science in primary and secondary schools,
which will hopefully raise interest of better pupils in studying at
the Department of Mathematics in Osijek. The public is still not
completely aware of the existence of the Department of Mathematics
in Osijek and its function. By publishing this journal, the Osijek
Mathematical Society has its own official medium through which it
will be possible to gather its members and inform them about events
within and around the Society. All members of the Osijek
Mathematical Society receive the journal Osječki matematički list
free of charge. It is distributed in Croatia. More details referring
to the journal Osječki matematički list can be seen at
these pages.
3. Department of Mathematics also published the
following conference proceedings: 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th
International Conference on Operational Research.
