Personnel

At the moment, Department of Mathematics employs 3 full professors, 1 associate professor, 5 assistant professors and 20 assistants, i.e. junior researchers, 1 of whom is a PhD degree holder and 4 MSc degree holders.

University of Osijek mathematicians have been well organised since 1993, first through the Osijek branch of the Croatian Mathematical Society, then Institute of Applied Mathematics and now Department of Mathematics. Active policy aiming at providing and educating our own younger scientists will soon result in ensuring a satisfactory number of personnel necessary for complete functioning of the Department on the level of the whole University of Osijek. Most of our assistants have enrolled in the joint doctoral degree study programme (University of Zagreb, University of Osijek, University of Rijeka, University of Split). Some of them study at foreign institutions (the International Max Planck Research School for Computer Science, Universität des Saarlandes, the University of Tilburg, the Netherlands).

Special attention is paid to cooperation with other universities. With respect to this matter it might be said that special stress is placed on cooperation with the Department of Mathematics, University of Zagreb, but also with other Croatian and foreign universities and scientists.

It has been proven so far that the most secure personnel is the one originating from this environment, but it takes a lot of time, efforts and luck. However, it can be expected soon that some senior assistants coming from the Zagreb Department of Mathematics are going to find jobs in other environments. If we take into consideration the fact that the Department of Mathematics is to organise and carry out mathematics and statistics classes at other faculties and departments within the University of Osijek as well, then special attention should be directed towards both education of young scientists and improvement of working conditions.

The structure of the office and technical staff is as follows: Department's secretary – 1 person, Head of the Department's secretary – 1 person, CARNet system engineer – 1 person, senior computer administrator – 1 person, accounting-telling matters - 3 persons, student administration office - 1 person, librarian – 2 persons, maintenance – 1 person and auxiliary and technical staff - 2 persons. Afternoon tour of duty in the computer classroom is carried out by students.
