As can be seen from the approved curricula, within
the framework of the first cycle study programme (Bachelor level) in
mathematics students will acquire fundamental knowledge falling into
the scope of the core of mathematics as well as necessary knowledge
of computer science and physics. Special attention is also paid to
learning English and German for specific purposes (as used in
mathematics, computer science and physics). The aforementioned first
cycle study programme enables acquisition of fundamental knowledge
in mathematics and computing as well as introduction to basic
mathematical and computer science theories. After successful
completion of the first cycle study programme graduates will be
awarded the title Bachelor of Science (baccalaureus/baccalaurea) in
Mathematics, as well as the diploma and a diploma supplement
certifying which examinations the student in question passed by
which grade, and providing data on the contact hours and course
contents. With this diploma a student will be able to try to find a
job or enrol in a second cycle study programme (Master level) not
necessarily at the Department of Mathematics, University of Osijek.
Study programme: First cycle
study programme in mathematics (Bachelor level)
Title awarded after completion of the study
programme: Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (baccalaureus/baccalaurea)
Institution: J. J. Strossmayer University of
Osijek, Department of Mathematics
Duration of study: three academic years, i.e.
six semesters
Entry requirements: four-year secondary
school education completed and admission requirements met
Planned number of students: 50 supported by
the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports and 10 self-financed
Assessment of course quality and study progress:
An analysis of objective and subjective indicators referring to
study progress will be done at the end of every academic year.
Objective indicators include the following: analysis of professional
and scientific competence of lecturers and their improvement,
analysis of students' study progress in every academic year for
every individual course within the proposed study programme and for
every year of study, as well as keeping employment records and
professional in-service training of the Department's graduates.
Subjective indicators include the following: questionnaires (see 3.5
and 3.6) done by students after the end of every course, a report
done by every respective lecturer at the end of their courses
referring to the goals achieved, problems that might have occurred
as well as possible solutions proposed by the lecturer for the
purpose of raising the future study progress of the course in
question, and remarks given by Department's graduates and their
employers concerning the level of harmonisation and the way the
study programme is carried out at the Department with needs in
practice.
Requirements for progression to the next academic
year: Students have the right to enrol in a higher year of study
after having met all requirements defined by the study programme in
accordance with the University Statutes and other by-laws of the
Department of Mathematics (details given in addition to tables of
the curriculum).
Completion of the study programme: By passing
all examinations, writing down the graduation paper and passing the
final (graduation) examination.
Possibility of continuing the study programme:
Students who lost the status of a full-time student have the right
to complete their respective study programmes in accordance with
conditions determined by the University Statutes and other by-laws
